Welcome to Magnolia Family Dental Care
Dr. Rodriguez and her team follow a strict safety protocol exclusive to her practice to ensure patient safety. We offer a holistic, comprehensive approach to dental health, comfort, and aesthetics.
There is a growing concern about the health effects of Mercury exposure, and some studies suggest that dental amalgam may contribute to Mercury exposure in the body. Studies also suggest the possibility of mercury exposure when removing metal fillings and that enough exposure to mercury can cause health issues.
Dr. Rodriguez’s dental practice is a S.M.A.R.T. practice, which means she takes extra precautions to minimize any potential risks associated with removing dental amalgam containing mercury. She follows a strict safety protocol exclusive to her practice to remove metal fillings, decreasing the chance of mercury exposure. As just one example, she prioritizes safe dental products. All of the products she uses are fluoride-free, non-toxic, and BPA-free.
While the available evidence does not show that exposure to mercury from dental amalgam will lead to adverse health effects in the general population, certain high-risk groups may be more susceptible to potential adverse effects generally associated with mercury, for example:
As a result, the FDA has issued updated recommendations on dental amalgam and potential risks to certain high-risk individuals that may be associated with Mercury-containing fillings used to restore the missing tooth.
Dr. Rodriguez is a S.M.A.R.T. certified provider from the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology. Her approach to dentistry, using alternative materials to dental amalgam, such as tooth-colored fillings made of composite resin, has several benefits, including reducing the risk of mercury exposure and providing a more aesthetic result. Dr. Rodriguez’s special training allows her to safely remove the amalgam from the patient’s mouth and not use mercury-containing filling material.
In summary, Dr. Rodriguez prioritizes tooth-colored restorations, which provide a more aesthetic result without compromising the restoration’s longevity while avoiding unnecessary mercury exposure.
At Magnolia Family Dental Care, we are committed to providing exceptional dental care under the new leadership of Dr. Rodriguez, a S.A.F.E. certified provider from the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology.
Dr. Rodriguez is a highly accomplished dental professional who recently assumed leadership of the Santiago Dental Practice (now named Magnolia Family Dental Care). Originally from Colombia, she came to this country at the age of 14 and developed a deep passion for science, particularly biology and chemistry. Driven by her dedication, she earned a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Florida International University, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
While pursuing her dream of becoming a biologist, Dr. Rodriguez worked at the Florida Lions Eye Bank, where she gained valuable experience in surgical transplant procedures involving corneas and whole eyes. This experience sparked her desire to serve the community through the medical field, leading her to join a volunteer group of dentists providing dental care to underserved communities. Through years of volunteering, dentistry became more than just a job to her; it became a fulfilling dream come true.
Despite facing adversity during her dental school journey, including a car accident that resulted in a fractured right hand, Dr. Rodriguez’s determination allowed her to adapt and excel. She learned to use her left hand and graduated on time, earning recognition as a top student for her resilience and positive character.
Following her dental degree at Temple, PA, Dr. Rodriguez completed a general practice residency at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus, focusing on the dental needs of immunocompromised patients. During this time, she personally experienced health issues and was diagnosed with metal toxicity, particularly mercury. Motivated by her own experiences, Dr. Rodriguez joined the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), an esteemed organization that provides mercury and fluoride-free biological dentistry. She learned the importance of implementing protocols to ensure the safety of both the dental team and patients.
In addition to her extensive training, Dr. Rodriguez is skilled in various advanced dental techniques, including Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) for soft tissue regeneration and facial aesthetics, laser dentistry, and 3D diagnosis of the oral cavity.
Dr. Rodriguez is happily married to her husband. Together, they have three children and a dog named Macaroni. They enjoy spending quality time as a family, exploring new culinary experiences, and seeking exciting adventures.
